Despite efforts in the Senate on Feb. 25 and 26 to pass a short-term extension of the deadline to apply for Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits, no action was taken before the Senate adjourned Feb. 26. While legislation granting an extension will not occur prior to the Feb. 28 deadline, the Senate Majority Leader has indicated he will offer an extension of the deadline through Dec. 31, 2010 as part of the next jobs bill to be offered in the Senate. The timing for that was not known.
